Milton A. Lee

DELAVAN - Milton Lee, age 91, of Delavan passed away peacefully with loved ones around him on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Kindred Hearts in Elkhorn.  He was born in Downing, WI on February 17, 1932 to Arnold and Helen (Behling) Lee. Milton attended the Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) in Delavan when he was 7 and continued there until he graduated.  During this time, he met the love of his life, Joy Erickson.  Upon completion at WSD he ventured off to Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. which is the world's only university designed for deaf students.  He worked at the Chicago Sun Times as a summer job.  While attending Gallaudet, Milton and Joy continued their long-distance relationship.  After receiving his degree in Physical Education, he married Joy Erickson on June 13, 1959 in Racine. Joy passed away on January 24, 2023.  They moved to Tucson, AZ where he worked as a physical education teacher and coach at the Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind.  They moved back home to Delavan where he was a physical education teacher and coach until he retired in 1997.  Upon retirement, he was a substitute teacher until 2020.  WSD named one of the gymnasiums after him.  Milton was a member of Boy Scouts, Kappa Gamma Fraternity, Southern Lakes Association of the Deaf (SLAD), Wisconsin and National Association of the Deaf, and Wisconsin School for the Deaf Foundation (WSDF).  Milton enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, and anything else he thought may be of value.  Milton enjoyed traveling to 49 of the 50 states.  His family was a source of immense pride and joy.  He thoroughly enjoyed watching them participate in various activities.  He loved his Wisconsin sports teams and was an avid fan of the Packers, Bucks, Brewers, and Badgers.  He was also a big Notre Dame fan.  

Milton is survived by his daughter, Lori (Kevin) Flood, of Waukesha; two sons, Don (Julie) Lee, of Arlington Heights, IL, and Thomas (Jennifer) Lee, of Elkhorn; 11 grandchildren, Heather Lee, Amanda Lee, Eric Lee, Steven Flood, Jennifer (Jacob) Hansen, Daniel Flood, Courtney Lee, Kendra Lee, Gavin Lee, Gloria Lee, and Sabrina Lee; five great grandchildren, Trenton, Tyler, Arianna, Aaliyah, and Kingston; sister in law, Phebe Lee: and numerous nieces and nephews.  Milton is preceded in death by his parents: his wife, Joy; his son, Ronald: his brother, Stan, and his sister, Betty.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Sugar Creek Lutheran Church, N5690 Cobblestone Road in Elkhorn.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service on Monday at the church.  Burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Delavan.  Memorials can be directed to Southern Lakes Association for the Deaf or Wisconsin School for the Deaf Foundation. Thank you to the staff at Kindred Hearts and Agrace Hospice for their diligent care in the final chapter of Milton’s life..
