Traditional Funeral Services

This type of service includes a viewing, visitation, and funeral service for the deceased.  The body is placed in a casket which the family has selected.  Many families and friends of the deceased find that having a final viewing brings some type of closure and comfort to them.  When viewing is requested by the family, embalming is typically required. The casket can be closed or remain open at the service. This type of service can take place at the funeral home, church, or alternative locations.  After the funeral, the hearse procession travels to the cemetery for burial.

Traditional Funeral Services with Cremation After

This type of service is similar to the Traditional Funeral Service in the fact that there is a viewing, visitation, and funeral with the body present.  The main difference is that at the end of the funeral, the casket does not process to the cemetery for burial.  Instead, cremation will take place instead of burial.  Burial of ashes can still occur after everything has been completed. This type of service can take place at the funeral home, church, or alternative locations.

Direct Burials

Direct burial is burial of the deceased shortly after death has occurred.  Typically, no viewing or visitation takes place so embalming isn’t typically necessary. The family may wish to have a gathering at the cemetery and a family member or religious leader say words to honor the life of the deceased.  Some families choose to have additional services in the future to honor the life of the deceased.

Memorial Services

This type of service occurs when the deceased’s body is not present for the funeral. Usually, an urn or a picture of the deceased is the focal point.  This can take place at the funeral home, church, or at another venue that was relevant to the deceased. Memorial services can be planned right away or the family can choose to wait awhile until everyone is available to get together and celebrate the person’s life.

Direct Cremation

Some families opt to have cremation with no immediate service or services held at a later date. The cremation can take place before or after a funeral or memorial service. After the cremation has taken place the ashes can be buried, placed in an urn and kept at the family’s home, placed in jewelry, or scattered in a meaningful place.
