Darrell Alfred Line, born on August 26, 1938, passed away on January 12, 2025 at the age of eighty-six after a courageous battle with diabetes and dementia. True to his unwavering kind and generous nature, he did so calmly and without fanfare.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Heidi Line, eldest daughter Lisa Line, and brother Donald Eugene Line. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Lee Line and Helen Catherine (Smith) Line, sister Anna Lee Greinke, and his youngest daughter Kristy Line.
As a child, Darrell's family moved from Parsons, Kansas to Chicago, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960 where he met Heidi while stationed in Germany. They married and moved to Elmhurst, Illinois and resided there for over fifty years, creating countless memories in their long-time community. In 2023, they relocated to Delavan, Wisconsin to be closer to their daughter Lisa.
Darrell chose a career as a lighting designer and was involved with many professional organizations. He was President of IES Chicago in 1979 and President of Chicago Lighting Club in 1981.
His life was marked by his enduring commitment to his family and his kindness to everyone, even in the face of challenges. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A celebration of life will be planned for some time this spring.
