Clarence W. Schawk

Schawk, Clarence Photo FONTANA – Clarence W. Schawk, age 88, of Fontana, WI & Park Ridge, IL passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Mercy Walworth Hospital in Lake Geneva, WI.  He was born in Chicago on March 21, 1926 to Clarence E. and Adell (Treptow) Schawk.  Clarence proudly served in the U.S. Marines in the 2nd Divison 2nd Battalion in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of War during the infamous battle of Okinawa. Clarence was united in marriage to Marilyn Rieck on June 6, 1953 in Chicago.  He was the founder and longtime owner and operator of Schawk, Inc. in Chicago, IL.  Presently along with his wife Marilyn they are the owners and operators of the Geneva Inn on Lake Geneva.  Among many of his memberships and accomplishments were: The Clarence W. and Marilyn G. Schawk Family Foundation have been involved with many organizations including CLEF (Chicago Lutheran Educational Fund), United Way, National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, National Foundation for Abused and Neglected Children, Neediest Kids Fund, Salvation Army, Boy Scouts of America, LEAPS Program at Valparaiso University, Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, inner city schools of Chicago, Time is Now, as well as several other worthy causes. 

Clarence is survived by his wife of  61 years, Marilyn; his sister Dorothy Schawk; four children, Cathy Schawk, of Sarasota, FL, David (Teryl) Schawk, of Barrington, IL, Judy (Bruce) Gallo, of Park Ridge, IL, and Lisa (Scott) Stearns, of Madison, WI; seven grandchildren, Kelly (Rob) Douglass, Colleen (Tom) Barlo, Kara (Adam) O’Dempsey, Jessica Gallo, William Stearns, Mallory Stearns and Sarah Stearns; six great grandchildren, Ava, Tyler, Addison, Trevor, Travis, and Scarlet. 

Clarence was a man who loved and faithfully served his God, his family, and his country. He will be missed by many. The family would like to thank Mercy Walworth staff for all their loving care.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 26, 2014 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 416 W. Geneva Street in Delavan with Rev. Robert P. Rickman officiating.  Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and an hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.  Entombment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Lake Geneva, WI. 

A Memorial Service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 6201 W Patterson, Chicago, Saturday, October 4, at 11 am.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Chicago Lutheran Educational Fund (CLEF) 861 S.
