Curtis A. Woods

With great sadness we announce the passing of Curtis (Curt) Allan Woods, age 76.  He passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, at his home in Lyons, Wisconsin.  Born to Wendell Woods and Ethel Mary Woods (Hii) on July 29, 1948, Curt treasured the fun times growing up in rural Darien, Wisconsin.  His interests ranged from golf, tennis, downhill and water-skiing to chess, politics, history, flower gardening, and art collecting.

After graduating from Delavan-Darien High School in 1966, Curt embarked on his college career earning a BA, Master of Science in Administration of Justice, and JD (Juris Doctorate) from the Seton Hall School of Law (1983) at the University of Wiscosin-Madison.

During his adult life journey, he wrote 15 publications on criminal and civil justice including Police Community Relations (1975) for the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Discrimination Against Women in Criminal Justice Systems published in the Boston Law Review (1985).

As an attorney, Curt practiced law in New Jersey for several years and became a specialist in the field of accident/injury cases about how to defeat fraudulent injury claims. Based on his research and experiences, he wrote seven articles published by the Defense Research Institute in For the Defense from 1991-2003.  This monthly magazine is designed for civil defense practitioners; the publication focuses on trends and key elements in civil litigation.

Later, Curt served as an inspiration in his role as an expert consultant to law firms regarding how to successfully litigate accident/injury cases including gathering evidence, defending and winning cases.  In retirement, he continued pursuing his passion for writing with a focus on historical and political concerns such as legal fiction and junk science.

Curt is survived by his sons, Trent and Grant; grandchildren, Colin, Sierra, and Chase; brother, Warren (Woody); sister-in-law Naomi; sister Debora (Deb), nephews Brett, Jason, David, and nieces Lydia, Laura, Teresa, and Elizabeth.

A memorial for family and friends will be announced later.
