DARIEN – Daniel Nickels, age 67, of Darien passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Sherwood Lodge in Williams Bay. He was born in Elkhorn on August 18, 1955 to Francis and Alva (Olsen) Nickels. He graduated from DDHS in 1973. Dan was united in marriage to Colleen Scott on June 15, 1974 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Delavan. He worked at Sta-Rite then Pentair for 46 years before retiring as a Production Leader. Dan was a volunteer for the Darien Fire and Rescue for 36 years and served as a past chief. He volunteered at Darien Cornfest for many years and also was an avid Wisconsin sports fan.
Dan is survived by his wife of 48 years, Colleen; two sons, Jeff (Jodi) Nickels, of Green Bay, and Greg Nickels, of Darien; two granddaughters, Lauren and Payton; three sisters, Mary Ann Berve, of Darien, Pat Long, of Darien, and Francene Nickels, of Madison; a brother, Joe (Laurie) Nickels, of Darien; and many nieces and nephews.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Michael; four brother-in-laws, Oscar, Jerry, Don, Tom; and a nephew, Ronnie.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 18, 2023 and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Darien Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Darien Fire and EMS. The family would like to thank the staff at Sherwood Lodge and Aurora Hospice for the special care given to Dan.
