Miller, Donald Obit Pic Delavan, Wis. - Donald "Don" C. Miller, 78, of Delavan passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, Wis.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Delavan United Methodist Church, 213 S. 2nd Street, with the Rev. Stan Curtis officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Monroe Funeral Home in Delavan.

Don was born in Orange City, Iowa, on Feb. 16, 1936 to Elmer and Jenny [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent="yes" overflow="visible"][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type="1_1" background_position="left top" background_color="" border_size="" border_color="" border_style="solid" spacing="yes" background_image="" background_repeat="no-repeat" padding="" margin_top="0px" margin_bottom="0px" class="" id="" animation_type="" animation_speed="0.3" animation_direction="left" hide_on_mobile="no" center_content="no" min_height="none"][Hollinga] Miller. Don married Judith Lockard on June 23, 1956 in Chino, Calif. He earned his bachelor of arts degree from Morningside College in Sioux City, and earned his specialist degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

He worked for many years in the Iowa Public School Systems. Don started as a teacher and coach and then became a principal before eventually becoming a superintendent of schools.

He was a very active member of Delavan United Methodist Church. Don was also a member of the Moose Lodge, a First Degree Mason, and a past member of the Delavan Rotary Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who liked to hunt and fish. Like all sportsmen, he had a great sense of humor. He had a lifelong interest in sports.

In his prep years, he won the State of Iowa Championship and the Drake Relays championship in the mile run. He attended South Dakota State University on a track scholarship and also played college basketball. He loved to play baseball, golf, tennis and bowling. He was honored by the Iowa State Athletic Association for his longevity as a basketball and football official. For some reason he was a diehard Cubs fan.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy; a daughter, Tracy Miller, of Libertyville, Ill.; a son, Timothy (Marlo) Miller of Madison County, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kyle [Becky] Klapman, Zachary Jarecki and Kathryn Jarecki; a brother, Rodney of California; a nephew, Roddy; and a great nephew, Roddy.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leslie.

Memorials can be directed to the church.
