Dr. Mary Rose Tauscher

MILWAUKEE – Dr. Mary Rose Tauscher, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at her home in Milwaukee. Mary Rose was born in Milladore, WI on August 27, 1933 to George and Dora (Haasl) Tauscher. She was an educator for 32 years in music, guidance and counseling, and administration. A strong proponent of education throughout her life, she taught at all levels from elementary through university. Mary Rose earned a Ph.D. in Urban Education from the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee on May 22, 1977. She later joined the faculty of Milwaukee Area Technical College where she taught for 14 years until her retirement in 1995. Mary Rose enjoyed traveling and, as part of a college team, traveled eight times to the Northwest Territories of Canada to live among and study the culture of the Eskimos. She developed a lifelong affinity for Inuit language and culture that inspired the names of her beloved Shih Tzu dogs and the name NANUK on her customized license plate. She enjoyed sharing travel photos and mementos with her many friends and family members, tending her garden, and giving generously to all who knew her.

Mary Rose is survived by her siblings, Anna Rudy, of IN, Norbert Tauscher, of Wisconsin Rapids, Gladys Kobishop, of West Allis, Laurene (Jerry) Braunsky, of Auburndale, Agnes (Fritz) Link, of Wisconsin Rapids, Father Donald Tauscher, of Collegeville, MN, Doris Tauscher, of Wisconsin Rapids and Leon (Beth) Tauscher, of Denver, CO; brother-in-law, Robert Pongratz, of Auburndale; sister-in-law, Dianne Tauscher, of Auburndale; and many nieces and nephews.  Mary Rose is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Raymond and Dennis Tauscher; a sister Rita Pongratz; two brothers-in-law, Fred Rudy and Harlan Kobishop; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Tauscher.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 5866 Main Street in Auburndale with Fr. Jesse Burish officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.  The family would like to thank Horizon Hospice for their loving care of Mary Rose and especially her nurse, Megan.  Memorials can be directed to the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
