DELAVAN – George R. Tscharner, Jr., age 90, of Delavan passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at his home in Delavan. He was born in DeKalb, IL on April 30, 1926 to George Sr. and Elsa (Schmidt) Tscharner. George was united in marriage to Florence Mojack. He graduated from the Wisconsin School for the Deaf in 1947. George worked for the Delavan Enterprise and The Week for over 60 years. He was the founder of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of the Deaf in Delavan in 1957. George was a longtime member of the Southern Lakes Association of the Deaf in Delavan. He served as secretary and treasurer. He also served as the Financial Director of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf, Division #80 in Delavan for over 60 years. George received the “Meritorious Service Award” by NFSD Division #80. He was inducted into the WSD Service Hall of Fame in 2008. George was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Holy Cross Church of the Deaf.
George is survived by his wife of 38 years, Florence Tscharner and two sisters, Betsy Allen and Silvia Tscharner, of Portland, OR.
George is preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held from 11:00 A.M. – 1:30 P.M. on Friday, May5, 2017 at the SLAD Clubhouse, 715 E. Wisconsin Street in Delavan. In lieu of flowers memorials for George, please make donations to Florence.
