DELAVAN - Gerard W. “Gerry” Heble passed away January 31, 2024, at the age of 95. He passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was the son of Steve and Antoinette (Dvorak) Heble, born December 19, 1928, Atwood, KS at the farm home. Gerard was the oldest of seven siblings, Lorraine (Raymond) Wilkinson, Nadine (Frank) Holub, Darlene Heble, Conrad (Judy) Heble, Sister Judith Ann Heble O.S.B. and Steve (Pat) Heble. He attended Immaculate Conception High School in Dwight NE and Maur Hill High School in Atchison, KS. Graduated from St. Procopius College in Lisle, IL in May 1950 getting his degree in mathematics and minoring in physics.
During the Korean War in March 1951, he was drafted into the Army. He did his basic training in light infantry at Ft. Riley, KS. After, was sent to Japan where he attended Heavy Equipment Operator School at Etajima, Japan for six weeks. Upon completion was sent to South Korea as a replacement in the 1343rd Alabama National Guard Combat Engineers Co. C just below the 38th parallel where he spent 10 months of the 11months of his time in South Korea. He was promoted during his stay to Platoon Sargent and then to Company First Sargent as Sargent First Class (SFC). He left South Korea in August, 1952. He was discharged in December of 1952 after spending his last five months at Camp Crowder, MO.
In early 1953 he went to the Chicago area and was employed by Buick of GMC where the J65 Jet engine was being built for the Airforce. After completion of the contract he transferred to Delco Radio for a short stay and then transferred to Electromotive Division in McCook, IL retiring after thirty two plus years of GM service. While employed at Buick he met his wife Eileen Bozec and was married in November, 1955 at St. Cletus Catholic Church in LaGrange, IL. To their marriage were born three children, Theresa (Gary) Kaszynski, Regina (Philip) Barden and Gregory (Michelle) Heble. They have six grandchildren, Kathryn, Elyssa, Sarah, Mikaela, Brantt, Blake and five great grandchildren, Brent & Joselyn, Shea, Jett , and Charlotte .
During his employment at Electromotive he and Eileen in 1974 bought a 160 acre farm in Richland County, WI. After taking early retirement they sold their original home in Lisle, Illinois after living there for twenty eight years and made the farm their permanent home for twenty nine enjoyable years. Because of age it became too much to take care so they sold it in October 2013 and moved to Westshire Farms, a 55 plus community in Delavan, WI.
The family wishes to thank Agrace Hospice for their care of Gerry at his home. Also, to Deacon Phil Kilkenny for his spiritual support.
Funeral Services will be held at NOON on Friday, February 2, 2024 at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 714 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Friday at the church. There will be a Rosary starting at 10:45 A.M.
