Grover Cleveland Thompson

DELAVAN – Grover Cleveland Thompson, age 71, of Delavan went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, July 19, 2017.  He was born September 1, 1946 in Liberty Hill, SC to his parents Lucinda Ealy Addison and Lewis Thompson.  Grover grew up in Liberty Hill and moved to Boston, MA at 19 years old.  He then moved to Delavan in 1980, where he married the love of his life, Ida Ruth Thompson in 1986.  They have been married 31 blissful years!  He worked and retired from Pentair (Sta-Rite) in 2004.  Grover joined Wayman Chapel AME, Delavan in 1980 and was trustee and treasurer until his illness.  He loved to fish, cook, and spend time with his family. 

Grover is survived by his wife, Ida Thompson, of Delavan; sisters, Elizabeth and Fanniebell, of South Carolina; children, Grover (Tina) Ryan, of Tuscaloosa, AL, Michon (John) Winn, of Tuscaloosa, AL, Lucinda Williams, of Boston, MA, Jerry Square, Sr., of Delavan, Calvin (Melissa) Square, of Delavan, Felicia Square, of Linden, AL, and Cedric (Tina) Square, of Delavan; Grover was loved by 26 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, brother and sister in-laws, and friends.   

 Grover is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Willie and Lewis Thompson, Ada Porter, Ella Foster, and James Addison.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 NOON on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Ave in Delavan.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Delavan.
