Harold Nieuwenhuis

DELAVAN – Harold Nieuwenhuis, age 88, of Delavan passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn.  He was born in Chicago on July 6, 1928 to Peter and Sadie (Pannekoek) Nieuwenhuis. Harold was united in marriage to Jean Stalman on October 12, 1949 in Evergreen Park, IL. Jean passed away on June 29, 2011.  In 1954, Harold started Nieuwenhuis Brothers Disposal.  In addition to being dedicated to his work in the garbage business, Harold enjoyed fishing and gardening as hobbies.  His love of gardening in his later years led to over production for his own needs and he often offered free vegetables on a table in front of the house to those who walked by his home on Holland Avenue. Beyond these, of first importance to Harold was his faith in Jesus Christ. This led him to be active in church life all his years and willing to share his faith with others along the journey of life. His strong faith in his Lord Jesus has been a testimony to his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who came in contact with him. He will be greatly missed.

Harold is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Dan) Logterman, of Delavan; sons, Roger (Elaine) of FL, William (Kathy) of Rimbey, Alberta Canada, and Robert (Kelly) of Elkhorn; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and a sister, Dora Haak;
