DELAVAN - Jacob M. Vahe, age 81, of Delavan passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn. He was in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era and spent 2 weeks there right before his discharge in 1967. He was in the military police along with the German Shepherd “Smokey.” Together they walked the perimeter of his base in Moses Lake protecting the missiles on the base. One day President Kennedy visited the base and his shoe scuffed Jack’s boot. In February 1967 he met his future bride, Eileen. They traveled the world together for 55 1/2 years. Even after his stroke when he could no longer speak one phrase came out as clear as a bell. It was said to Eileen and he said “I love you, I love you, I love you.”
Jack is survived by Eileen; nephew, David (Linda) Grabarczyk; niece, Ann (Matt) Jarginski; nephew, John (Jan) Grabarczyk; 3 great nieces, Sarah “Harris: Grabarczyk, Amanda Jarzynski, and Stephanie (Coby) Sanchez; great nephew, Matthew (Renae) Jarzynski; and their great great nephews, Sammy, Zachary; and great great niece, Sophie; and one very special family friend, nurse Jennifer and her family.
