DELAVAN – Jerry E. Peters, age 86, of Delavan passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn. He was born in Elkhorn on January 27, 1931 to Harold and Jeannette (Bennett) Peters. Jerry was united in marriage to Maxine Schmidt on September 12, 1959 in Delavan. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from April 24, 1951 – April 19, 1955. Jerry was a longtime employee of the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a past Commander of Post 95 in Delavan and Walworth County Legion, past member of the Spring Grove Cemetery Association, and founding member of “Hatless Harry’s”.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maxine; two daughters, Janet (Christopher) Hughes, of Chicago, and Valerie (Greg) Faust, of Sun Prairie; three grandchildren, Madison Faust, Margaret Hughes, and Michael Hughes; and many other relatives.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 1, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 212 S. Main Street in Delavan. Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Ave and an hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Burial with military honors will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Delavan. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the First Baptist Church.
