Peter Hoekstra, Sr.
June 6, 1926 - Nov 13, 2024
DELAVAN - Peter Hoekstra lived a long, full, generous life. He was born in Hinsdale, IL on June 6, 1926. He resided in Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale, and Indian Head Park, IL; Swoope, VA; and Delavan, WI over his ninety-eight years.
Faith in God was the most important part of Pete’s life. He truly lived “one day at a time” with Jesus by his side. He was a member of Western Springs (IL) Christian Reformed Church, Fountain of Life Church (Lombard, IL), Holy Cross Presbyterian Church (Staunton, VA), and Delavan Christian Reformed Church (Delavan, WI). Up until his passing, he read Scripture every morning, noon, and night. His favorite verse was “This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) His prayers were precious conversations with the Lord he loved.
Pete was an entrepreneur from a young age right through to his retirement. He worked with his family as a truck farmer, started a refuse business with his brother, and established a topsoil business with three of his cousins. His Pioneer Concrete Raising Service was well known and trusted throughout the Chicago metropolitan area for more than twenty-five years. Buying and selling real estate and vintage farm equipment rounded out his professional life.
Pete treasured his family. He was married to Margaret (Korringa) Hoekstra for forty-five years. His pride and joy were his two children, Anita and Peter , their spouses and four children, and his two great grandchildren.
Pete was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Korringa) Hoekstra on November 3, 1998. He outlived all his siblings: Anne, William, Henry, Sadie, Grace, Jean, Mike, Margie, and Ben.
He is survived by Theresa (Roeters) Hoekstra, his wife of twenty-three years, his stepchildren and their families; daughter Anita (Hoekstra) Richardson and her husband, Alan Richardson, M.D., grandson Mark Richardson, granddaughter Bethany Richardson (Andrew Graham); son Peter Hoekstra and his wife, Lisa (Marriner) Hoekstra, granddaughter Geneva Hoekstra Lai (Tom Lai), grandson Jordan Hoekstra (Emily Shields), and great grandchildren, Jacob Lai and Whitney Lai.
A private family service of remembrance was officiated by son Peter Hoekstra.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
Peter’s remains will be interred at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oak Brook Terrace, IL.
