DELAVAN – Richard D. Pierson, age 87, of Delavan passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 7, 2018. He was born on May 18, 1931 at Walworth County Hospital to Edward and Harriet (Koss) Pierson. Richard proudly served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. He graduated from Delavan High School, UW-Whitewater, and received his Master Degree from Purdue University. Richard was united in marriage to Jennie Stevens on December 27, 1954 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Richard was a teacher at DDHS for 30 years and UW-Whitewater for 33 years. He was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post 95, and WREA.
Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jennie; children, Steven Pierson, of Delavan, Michael Pierson, of Delavan; Kathleen (Stephen) Newell, of Castle Rock, CO, Teresa (James) Speri, of Chesapeake, VA, James (Brenda) Pierson, of Oconomowoc, and Joseph (Karen) Pierson, of Whitewater; grandchildren, Jennifer (Joseph) Mork, Patrick, Christopher, Andrew, and Matthew Pierson, Philip Speri, and Alex and Hillary Newell.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis; and a brother, Edward.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 13, 2018 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 714 E. Walworth Ave in Delavan. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service on Friday at the church. Burial with military honors will take place at St. Andrews Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the Harold Johnson Food Pantry.
