Scott William Walker of Darien, WI, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022 on his 60th birthday after suffering a pulmonary embolism. He was born on September 11, 1962, son of William Walker and Cynthia (Ashmore) Kelley, in Kenosha, WI.
Scott is survived by his wife of 38 years, Evelyn (Hegge), son Sean (Colleen) of Darien, daughter Heather (Vince) Zielinski; grandchildren Milly, Zoe, Oona, and Lexi Zielinski, Elena, Benjamin, Seth, Gabriel, and Isla Walker; sister Pamela (Sam) Wilding, brother Dennis (Diane) Walker, and his mother Cynthia (Robert) Kelley; nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and great nieces and nephews.
Scott is preceded in death by his little sister Brenda Prudhom Walker, whom he adored and longed to see again, and his father William.
Scott is also survived by every back deck and front porch he ever built for family and friends. We will miss his bear hugs with those freakishly long ‘spider-monkey’ arms, the wonderful feeling of his big leathery, work-worn hands gently holding yours, and his laugh which made his whole body shake. He was never afraid to invent a tall tale if it made the conversation more interesting and he always kept a pencil over his ear ready for a note or a project. Scott was a strong man, strong enough to shoulder a whole piano or woodstove during a move, strong enough to hold back a printing press roller from further destroying his hand and arm when he worked at Community Shoppers, and strong enough to teach his kids that strong people can still cry and be vulnerable. He loved being his grandkids’ jungle gym, taking pictures with the former governor of the same name at local events, and being the biggest kid on the sideline when the Harlem Globetrotters came to town. As a Deaf man, a 1981 graduate of Wisconsin School for the Deaf, Scott was told “no” his whole life, but never allowed that to be the last word. Throughout his life, he was a champion for equal rights for the Deaf, epitomized by his 28-year tenure at the United States Postal Service, where he defied and overcame the “nos” and proudly served as a lead window clerk at the Downtown Milwaukee Post Office. Given more time, he surely would have achieved his goal of becoming a postmaster.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Parish Hall of Chapel on the Hill, N2482 Cisco Road, Lake Geneva, WI on Saturday, September 24th at 11:00 a.m. We will have time to share your memories of life with Scott, as well as food and fellowship. Though it would have disappointed Scott, peanut-butter-and-mayo sandwiches will NOT be served. Interment of his ashes, along with a rendering of his beloved Ford Festiva and a bottle of glue (to put his wife back together in the afterlife), will take place at a future date at Pioneer Rest Cemetery in Canton, WI. In lieu of flowers, gifts will be used to open an education fund for his grandchildren. Monroe Funeral Home in Delavan is assisting the family. Please visit us at delavanfuneralhome.com
The family would like to thank the Darien EMS, Fire, and Police Departments for doing everything they could to save Scott in his time of distress. We would also like to thank all of our family and friends for their support and prayers, letting us know just how much Scott was loved. We are especially thankful for Scott’s life, which was a testimony to the fact that an imperfect, flawed, and heartbroken man could still be a wonderfully and fiercely loving husband, father, and friend, which is a testimony to the grace of God
