Shirley J. Dettman, age 94, a longtime resident of Delavan, passed away on May 2, 2023. She was born in Pekin, IL on September 8, 1928 and was the only daughter of Carl and Ethel Fuelberth. She was a proud employee of Balestrieri Environmental for 30 years. In her spare time, she loved touring the town with her sweet dog, Gidget, reading, playing cards, visiting family, and traveling the United States.
Most of all, many will remember how her smile could change the energy of an entire room. Shirley is survived by her children, Vickie Hunt and David Zimmerle, her son-in-law Jim Yocum, and her step children, Carole (Bob) Dettman, Linda (Dave) Stull, Laurel Dettman, and David (Heidi) Dettman. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lauren Zimmerle, Louis Zimmerle, John (Lisa) Yocum, Jill (David) Weyer, in addition to her great grandchildren and other amazing family and close friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dettman, her father, Carl Fuelberth, her mother, Ethel Fuelberth, her daughter Sharon Yocum, and her son-in-law, Terry Hunt. Special appreciations go to her neighbors Angie and Tim Kidwell, the caring staff of AccentCare Hospice and the kind staff of Oak Park Place in Wauwatosa.
Private Services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Shirley’s memory.
