DARIEN – Virginia L. Kohler Stirmel, age 88, of Darien passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at home in Darien. She was born on December 8, 1937 to Edward and Julie (Staiger) Kohler. She graduated from Delavan High School in 1956. Virginia was united in marriage to James Stirmel on May 1, 1958 at the Brick Church in Walworth. They owned and operated the Edgewater Resort in Nekoosa from 1983-2000. Virginia belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and volunteered with the Darien Community Baptist Church Meals on Wheels.
Virginia is survived by her husband, James, of Darien; two daughters, Vickie Stirmel Saltmarsh, of Downers Grove, IL, and Barb (George) Kiskunas, of Janesville; chosen daughter, Jane (Mark) Stiles, of Darien; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a brother, Willie (Judy) Kohler; and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Sheila; grandson, Christopher Saltmarsh; two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Delavan, 212 S. Main Street in Delavan. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Memorials can be directed to First Baptist Church of Delavan in Virginia’s name.
