DARIEN – David Alan “Smorg” Ottum, age 83, of Darien passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 5, 2026. He was born on June 25,1942 in Elkhorn to Myron and Gladys (Hagen) Ottum. David proudly served in the National Guard. He retired from WE Energies, formerly Wisconsin Southern Gas, after 40 years while also owning Dave’s Enterprises in Sharon. David was on the Sharon Fire and Rescue and belonged to the Walworth County Farm Bureau. Smorg was an avid golfer and classic car collector.
David is survived by his daughter, Sara Durkin, of NC; granddaughter, Hollyn (Blake) Dockery, of NC; a great-grandchild on the way; two sisters, Christine (Larry) March, of Elkhorn, and Sandra (Richard) Hirsch, of CO; two brothers, William (Marilyn) Ottum, of Mukwonago, and Terry Ottum, of Friendship, WI; Bonnie Worgull; and many nieces and nephews.
David is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Laura Ottum; twin sisters, Karen Jaeger and Kathryn Hoffman; and a niece, Tracey Roberts.
Services will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan. Visitation will be held from NOON until the time of the funeral on Tuesday at the funeral home.
