Arthur "Art" C. Smith III

DELAVAN – Arthur “Art” C. Smith III, age 82, of Delavan, WI and St. Pete Beach, FL peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at home in Delavan.  He was born in Evanston, Illinois on March 7, 1941 to Arthur II and Frances (Heyes) Smith. Art was raised in the northern Chicago neighborhood of Rogers Park.  He was a proud alumnus of Loyola Academy in Wilmette, IL and the University of Notre Dame. Art was united in marriage to Judy Stafford on May 15, 1965, from Aurora, IL.  After marriage to Judy, they lived in Glenview, IL for over 30 years and then moved permanently to the Delavan Club in 1998.  Together, they traveled to many destinations including Spain, Ireland, England, the Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, Alaska, and numerous other states. Judy passed away May 4, 2016.   Art was an enthusiastic fan of ND football, and enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, family and friends. Water was a big part of his life, he always lived near water and was working on an autobiography called “Lake Affect”. He was faithful to his country and God. 

Art is survived by his two children, Jennifer Ann (Cyrus) Green, of Fort Collins, CO, and Michael Patrick Smith, of Delavan; a granddaughter, Julia Elizabeth Ann Green, of Fort Collins, CO; and additional family, Jean Stafford, of Oswego, IL and Peggy Smith, of Pauma Valley, CA.

Art is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; and a brother, Dr. Charles Smith

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan, WI.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials can be directed to Art’s family to contribute to a tree planted in his name.
