DELAVAN - Bertus (Bert) H. Cook age 90, of Delavan, WI passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Janesville not long after being in the presence of family.
Bert was born and raised on a farm near Troy Center, WI. In 1946, his family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota. Following graduation from Rapid City High School he obtained employment in the Rapid City Creamery and shortly afterward, was married to Marilyn who would become the mother of his 3 children. In 1955, Bert and his family moved to Delavan and in 1975, he gained state employment at The Wisconsin School for the Deaf and was appointed the position of Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. It was there that he met Anne, who would become his wife in the fall of 1985. Bert achieved retirement from the State of Wisconsin in 1994.
After retirement, Bert enjoyed traveling in his RV with wife Anne. The couple settled in Surprise, AZ where they would spend time with Bert’s brother Jerry and sister Dorothy. Bert and Anne would move back to Wisconsin in 1999 where they would make their home on Island Rd in Delavan. While back in Delavan, Bert would spend time working alongside his son, Thomas, in the family’s masonry business.
Bert is survived by his wife, Anne; his children, Gregory (Denise) Cook, Connie (Robert) Hoffman, and Thomas Cook; stepchildren Gregory (Angela) Isler and Doug Isler; sister Dorothy Murray. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Bert is preceded in death by his parents Harley and Marjory, son James, brothers Gerald and Burnell.
Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Delavan American Legion, 111 S. 2nd Street in Delavan.
