Carol Hanke

EAST TROY- Carol Lynn Hanke, age 57, of East Troy passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023 at Aurora Hospital in Burlington. She was born in Chicago on September 10, 1965 to Sanford and Nancy Worland Meggert. Carol was united in marriage to Daniel Hanke on March 14, 1987.

Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and her beloved Bostons. She took great pride in breeding and raising the healthiest and sweetest champion Boston Terriers for families near and far. She was a member of the Boston Terrier Club of America and was a past Vice President of The Boston Terrier Club of Milwaukee. She loved bluegrass music which led her to the East Troy Bluegrass Festival and the beautiful Victorian home she adored. Later in life, a trip to Alaska and lots of idle time led to her newest favorite hobby—banjo playing. Her uncle taught her to play three banjo chords and the rest was history. Inspired and musically gifted, she taught herself dozens of songs and often performed for family and nursing homes crowds with her sister. But her greatest musical joy was performing in Nashville on Broadway last fall.

She absolutely adored working with children as a bus driver for Mukwonago and East Troy schools for many years and serving her community most recently at the East Troy Pharmacy.

Carol is survived by her husband, Dan; three sons, Andrew & Amanda Hanke of East Troy, Adam Hanke of Spring Prairie, Max & Katie Hanke of Cumming, GA; one grandson, Jacob Hanke; one sister, Bill & Marjorie Kauth of Bloomington, IL; one brother, Tom Burns of Chicago, IL; in-laws, Betty Hanke, Sue Hanke, James & Celeste Hanke of Lombard, IL, and Jeff Hanke of Laguna Niguel, CA as well as many dear aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Michael Meggert.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life picnic will be held at Veterans Park Pavilion, 698 Fellows Rd., Genoa City, WI on Sunday, June 11th at NOON.

She was a bright soul with the biggest heart who got SO much joy out of giving and receiving gifts.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your charity of choice.
