Dorothy Helen Benson

Dorothy Helen Benson, age 94 of Delavan, WI, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013 at her home in Delavan, WI.  She was born on Feb. 22, 1919 in Delavan,the daughter of Kurt and Dora (Billings) Plewe.  She was a 1937 graduate of Delavan High School and attended UW-Whitewater for one year.  Along with her mother and her brother Wally, she was the owner and operator of Eat'n Time restaurant in Delavan, until their retirement in 1990.  In addition to being a homemaker, Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Auxillary, the Monday Morning Alumni Club, the Episcopal Church Women, and Friends of the Aram Public Library.  She was a volunteer at Lakeland Hospital and Willowfield Nursing Home for many years.  Of all her community activities, she was most proud of being Director of the Christ Church Altar Guild for more than 40 years. She is survived by her daughter, Pat Benson of Delavan, her three sons; John (Susan) Benson of Ohio, Richard Benson of Delavan, and James Benson of Georgia, five grandchildren; Kimberly (Matt), Christopher (Jeanette), Ben, Sam, and Zack, four great-grandchildren; Katie, Alex, Karl, and Tyler, and five special nieces and nephews.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Wally (Helaine) Plewe, Jack Benson, life long friend Enny Swanke, several precious cats, and her beloved Syd.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH in Delavan, WI, with Fr. John Splinter officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at the CHURCH.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, contributions may be made to the Christ Episcopal Church or any of the area animal rescue shelters.  MONROE FUNERAL HOME, in Delavan, WI, is assisting the family.  Visit us at monroefh.com.
