DELAVAN - Elfrieda “Fritz” Vriezen, age 87, of Delavan passed away after a short illness on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Aurora Summit Medical Center. Fritz was born January 25, 1937 on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Todd County, SD. She was the sixth child of John and Dena (Sandbulte) Vriezen.
Her parents endured the Depression, Dust Bowl, and grasshoppers which prompted them to move to Wisconsin later in 1937 to a farm near Sharon. In 1947 the family moved to Delavan, where she spent the remainder of her life.
After graduating from Delavan High School she was employed for 48 years as an accountant for Sta-Rite Industries in Delavan, Waals Department Store in Walworth and William R. Henry Architectural Firm in Elkhorn. After retirement she was the secretary of the Williams Bay Lutheran Church.
Fritz was an active member and officer of Choral Union in Janesville for many years, also Masterpiece Choral of Walworth County. She was a member of Delavan Christian Reformed Church, of which she was an organist for many years.
Fritz is survived by many deeply loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Fritz is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dena; brother Bert and sister-in-law, Ann; infant niece; brother, John and sister-in-law, Henrietta; sister, Eda; brother, Marvin and sister-in-law, Joyce Kemink Vriezen; sister-in-law, Joyce Ebert Vriezen; and nephew, Loren Vriezen.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Sugar Creek Lutheran Church (Fritz’s church is currently under renovation) at N5690 Cobblestone Road in Elkhorn. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the funeral on Friday at the church. Burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Delavan after lunch at the church. Memorials can be directed to Delavan Christian Reformed Church or Delavan Christian School. The family would like to express thanks to the wonderful staff at Lakeland Health Care Center in Elkhorn and the Aurora Summit Hospital ICU staff.
