Neill R. Flood

DELAVAN – Neill R. Flood, age 86, of Delavan passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn surrounded by family.  He was born in Delavan on May 3, 1938 to George and Adelaide (O’Neill) Flood.  Neill was united in marriage to Nancy Schiller on July 18, 1959 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Delavan.

Neill spent 55 years in the lumber business first at the family business, Doyon and Rayne Lumber, in Delavan and later at Dunn Lumber in Lake Geneva.  Serving others was always his first interest and it showed through in many ways.  He joined the City of Delavan Fire Department as a volunteer in 1957 and retired in 2014 after serving over 30 years as Chief.  Fitting for a 57 year career with the fire department, the new station built in 2011 carries his name.  He was a lifetime member of St. Andrew’s Church in Delavan. Along with attending grade school there, he served in numerous capacities including Parish Council President, Finance Committee, Building and Grounds Committee, Parish Trustee, and Parish Festival Chairman.  He was always a great role model and lived life with God first followed by family and then friends.

Growing up he was a three sport athlete at Delavan HS and supported Delavan Darien sports for years while his children and grandchildren were in school.  He lived in the same house for almost his entire life and his front porch has been a familiar gathering spot for passersby for decades in the summer.  At Christmas time, for 75 years, the porch, possibly the most well known in the community, was always decorated with Santa Claus.  When his kids were younger, the family spent many weekends on camping trips in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter.  He loved classic cars and could be seen driving around town in one of his convertibles.  He was an avid Packer fan and years long season ticket holder.  If he has his way, he will be watching this season along with Bart Starr.

Neill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy; children, Patrick (Kristi) Flood, Lake Geneva;  Kevin (Lori) Flood, Waukesha: Michael (Gina) Flood, Ada, MI. and Susan Flood, Delavan. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Sarah (Charlie) Kuoni, Glen Ellyn, IL: Kate (Peter) Flood-Hoeschele, San Francisco, CA: Courtney (Mark) Switalski, Milwaukee; Steven Flood, New Berlin; Jennifer (Jake) Hanson, Chicago; and Daniel Flood, Waukesha.  He is further survived by three great grandchildren, Grace and Casey Kuoni and Max Flood-Hoeschele.  His grandchildren and great grandchildren were extra special to him.

Neill is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Bill Flood, Tom Flood, and Kathleen Lane.

Funeral Services will be held at NOON on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 714 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church.  Private Family Burial will take place at St. Andrews Cemetery in Delavan.  Please, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Andrew’s Parish School.
