Eli Nieuwenhuis

Eli Nieuwenhuis, age 91 of Delavan, Wi., passed away Friday April 12, 2013 at Lakeland Health Care Center in Elkhorn, Wi. to be with his Lord and Savior.  Eli was born on February 23, 1922 in The Netherlands, the son of Peter and Sadie (Pannakoek) Nieuwenhuis.  He was united in marriage to Alice DeVries on November 17, 1950 at the Delavan Christian Reformed Church.  He spent his early years as a farmer in the Walworth County area.  In 1967, he joined his brother Harold, in the operation of Nieuwenhuis Brothers Disposal.  In later years the next generation continued the family business, as Eli continued to enjoy his customers and his work and retired at the age of 88.  He was a member of the Delavan Christian Reformed Church. Eli is survived by his beloved wife, Alice of 62 years; daughter, Theresa (Don) Hiemstra; sons, Peter A. (Gail), Ronald, Eli (Char), Larry (Jean), Mel (Peggy), all of Delavan, Wi.  21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  2 sisters, Dora Haak and Ann (Henry) Reyenga and his brother, Harold.  He is preceded by his parents, infant son Peter, 2 brothers-in-law Peter DeVries and John Haak, 1 sister-in-law Jean Nieuwenhuis and infant brother Richard.

Funeral Services will be 12:00pm Wednesday April 17, 2013 at the Delavan Christian Reformed Church in Delavan, Wi. with Rev. Dan Roeda officiating.  Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 6:00pm Tuesday April 16, 2013 at the Delavan Christian Reformed Church.  Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery in Delavan, Wi.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Delavan Christian School or VIP Services Inc.  MONROE FUNERAL HOME in Delavan, Wi. is assisting the family.  Visit us at monroefh.com   Our family is thankful for Dad's life and his steadfastness to love and serve God, family and community.
