DELAVAN – Eugene “Gene” J. Pyrz, age 94, of Delavan passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn. He was born in La Salle, IL on October 27, 1921 to Adam and Joanne (Wisniewski) Pyrz. Gene was united in marriage to Doris Jenkins on October 28, 1950 in La Salle, IL. He attended St. Hyacinth’s Parochial School and La Salle Peru High School. Gene proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII for 3 years. He worked at Westclox for over 30 years and then worked for Borg Indak for 20 years. Gene became the caretaker of St. Andrew’s Cemetery in 1986 and was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. He also belonged to the American Legion Post 95.

Gene is survived by his two daughters, Debbie (Richard) Bernstorff, of Minong, WI, and Cindy (Bill) Schenk, of Elkhorn; a son-in-law, Don Boss; grandchildren, Bridget (Jeremy) DeVries, Shannon (Mike) Lindberg, Dr. Kenneth Schenk, and Dr. Bradley Schenk; 12 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.  Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Doris; a daughter, Janet Lynn; and his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 714 E. Walworth Ave in Delavan. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church.   Burial will take place at St. Andrew’s Cemetery in Delavan. Memorials can be directed to Aurora Hospice.
