Fred Koehl, age 90, of Darien, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully June 23, 2022, at Vintage on the Ponds, Delavan, WI.
Fred was born on the family farm to Fred and Louise (Heckle) Koehl August 28, 1931. He was the 2nd youngest of 10 children. Fred was a bachelor his entire life and spent most of his life traveling the country in his RV camper. He loved visiting family, friends, spending time at casinos and camping spots. He never missed a summer coming back to Wisconsin and camping out at “the pit” on the Koehl Farm. Fred was very instrumental in shaping up “the pit” on the farm and forming it into what it is today.
Fred was a jack of all trades. A handyman that could fix anything, if a new project came up, he would just figure it out.
In Fred’s younger years after attending Darien School, Fred worked at Thiele Brothers of Darien as a carpenter, he then went to California where he photographed and sold photos of ships coming back from the war at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, owned his own remodeling shop and was a butcher in a wholesale meat market. He also sold and serviced Acorn Farm equipment in Wisconsin in the 60’s and 70’s.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Elsie, Lucille, Helen, Dorothy. Brothers, William and George. Fred is survived by his sister Henrietta and brother-in-law Richard Kistner from Napa California and many nieces and nephews across the country.
Fred loved putzing around the farm and in his later years, loved his golfcart and keeping tabs on the farm’s daily activities.
Fred didn’t ask for much, he just wanted to make things simple so a celebration of life will held at a later date on the farm. See you in “the Pit”.
