DELAVAN – Jackie Lane (McCartie) Simons, of Delavan, WI passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn. She was born on July 12, 1948. She was employed at Darien Elementary School as the school secretary until she retired. She was passionate about the education of children and fostering a nurturing environment for their learning. At home, Jackie was a lover of nature and the outdoors, spending many hours tending to her garden and flower beds. She had a passion for bird watching and spent years raising Monarch butterflies from eggs. Jackie was a known cat lover, paying particular attention to her beloved long-haired Persian kitties. She was also a very talented and creative scrapbook aficionado and relished spending time with her friends to create scrapbook pages to capture precious family moments and events. Jackie valued her time spent with family members and always ensured that the holidays were celebrated (and decorated) at the highest levels. During the fall and winter she could be found cheering for her beloved Green Bay Packers or UW-Madison Badger Football. In the spring and summer she would maximize her time sunbathing in the hot sunny weather- both in Wisconsin, the beaches in Florida, or while cruising the Caribbean Islands on Royal Caribbean. Jackie was always on the look-out for a deal on a new piece of jewelry or clothing from her many adventures.
Jackie is survived by her husband, David W. Simons, of Delavan; two sons, Michael Simons, of San Diego, CA, and Jeffrey Simons, of Elkhorn, WI; niece, Julie (Krumenauer) Mlsna-McKernan, of St. Michael, MN. She is also survived by her most special granddaughter, Gabby J. Simons, of Elkhorn. She will miss celebrating “girls day” where she and Gabby would enjoy a day of pampering with manicures/pedicures.
Jackie is preceded in death by her mother, Arlene McCartie, of Darien; sister, Jill (McCartie) Krumenauer, of Milton, WI; and nephew, Steve Krumenauer, of St. Cloud, MN.
Jackie’s wish was to be cremated and buried in Darien. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date/time with immediate family only as per Jackie’s wishes. The family requests that donations be made to either The American Society for Prevention of Cruelty for Animals (ASPCA), the American Heart Association (AHA), or the COPD Foundation in lieu of flowers in Jackie’s name.
