DELAVAN – Jacob S. Friesema, age 88, of Delavan passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Aurora Medical Center in Elkhorn. He was born in Racine on March 27, 1935 to Samuel and Bertha (Fortuin) Friesema. Jake proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Janice Rusthoven on March 13, 1959 in Munster, IN. Jake owned Lakeland Trash Service for many years until retirement. He enjoyed traveling to Florida with his family.
Jake is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jan; four children, Joan (Ed) Swets, of Elkhorn, Bill Friesema, of Delavan, Patricia (Bill) Elgersma, of Greenwood, WI, and David (Kathy) Friesema, of Sharon; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; two sisters Elizabeth Hiemstra, of Delavan and Margaret Ham of Lansing, IL; a sister-in-law, Laverne Friesema, of Lake Geneva; and many nieces and nephews.
Jake is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John, George, Gilbert, and Gerhardt; and two brothers-in-law, Peter Hiemstra and Ted Ham.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Delavan Christian Reformed Church, 850 Oak Street in Delavan. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan and an hour prior to the funeral on Friday at the church. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memory Gardens in Lake Geneva. Memorials can be directed to Delavan Christian School.
