NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - John A. Schmidt, a resident of North Augusta, SC (formerly of Delavan) died unexpectedly on June 9th, 2015 at the age of 68. John was born in Delavan, WI on November 19th, 1946 to Arthur and Elizabeth Schmidt. He was a 1964 graduate of DDHS and then matriculated to Spencerian Business College where he earned a business degree in 1968. He then entered the Army and served honorably during the Vietnam War from 1969-1971. On June 3rd 1972 he was married to his golf course sweetheart Pamela, of whom they shared 43 years of marriage and birdies together.
In 2011, John retired from Textron in Augusta, GA after 32 years of service. He was active in the community, serving as secretary for the Sertoma Club. He enjoyed their fellowship and organizing events that benefited various charities. He was also a member of the River Golf Club where he played in several golf groups. It was there he was responsible for releasing many golf balls back into their natural habitat.
John was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife Pamela, his son Joseph (Dana), his daughter Jennifer Filbert (John), and grandchildren Nicholas, John, Olivia and Jackson.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 714 E. Walworth Ave in Delavan. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Thursday. Burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Delavan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Augusta Sertoma Club in his honor, PO Box 6184, North Augusta, SC 29861.
