John W. Garrett, 89, of Delavan, Wi., passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012, at his home. He was born July 6, 1922 in Oak Park, Il., the son of Frank and Julia (Dunlap) Garrett. John married Lorraine Gloss on May 5, 1949 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Chicago Heights, Il. He attended the University of Illinois where he studied Metallurgical Engineering before enlisting in the service. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army who served during WWII, in the 14th Armored Division. He previously resided in Lincolnshire Crete, Il. before moving to the Delavan area in 1980. He worked for many years as a steel salesman and most recently as a contractor who built homes in Lincolnshire Crete. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Delavan. John enjoyed being grandfather and had a special love for his great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lorraine of Delavan; daughter Denise Galleger of Delavan, 2 grandchildren; Christopher Galleger, Teri (Bill) Klewin, 2 great granddaughters; Amanda and Caitlyn Klewin, and many, many, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Ellise Garrett in 1985, siblings Frank, Betty, Jackie, and Charlotte.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00am, Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at St. Andrews Catholic Church, in Delavan, Wi., with Fr. Jim Schuerman officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 9:30 to funeral Mass time. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, in Chicago Heights, Illinois with full military honors.
