It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Colton Ryan Surges, 26, on May 25, 2026, in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. Colton was born on September 21, 1999, to Tonya and Brett Surges. A brilliant mind and honeysouled spirit, Colton graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh with a degree in Human Service Leadership.
Colton had a deep and lifelong love of sports that was woven into the fabric of who he was. A proud and devoted Wisconsin fan, he loved his Packers, Brewers, and Badgers with the kind of loyalty that only a true fan knows. Alongside his favorite teams, he enjoyed following UFC with the same passion. Game days were an opportunity to gather the people he loved most and share in something bigger than himself. He found joy and peace on the golf course, where a good round was always made better by the company alongside him.
One of Colton’s greatest joys in recent years was coaching the Badger High School freshmen baseball team. He embraced the role wholeheartedly, dedicating himself to helping young players find their footing and rise to the challenges of high school competition. He connected with his players and he took immense pride in guiding them through that transition. Colton regularly lit up when talking about this year’s team, expressing just how much it meant to him to watch them break through and string together win after win. To him it was about building confidence, character, and a love of the game in the next generation.
But for all his passion for sports, what defined Colton most was his devotion to the people around him. Family and friends were his foundation. He had an extraordinary gift for making those closest to him feel seen, supported, and loved. He showed up not just in the big moments, but in the quiet, everyday ones that matter most. His care for others was not something he spoke about; it was simply who he was, reflected in every room he walked into and every life he touched.
Colton is survived by his siblings; Hannah and Jacob Surges; grandmother, Phillis Redfern; grandparents, Janet and Bob Surges; uncle, Chad Surges.
Colton is preceded in death by his mother and father, Tonya and Brett Surges; grandfather, Kenneth Redfern.
Known for his selfless service and ability to light up any room, Colton will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His passion for sports and commitment to making the world a better place will continue to inspire us all. Colton’s legacy of humor, perseverance, and compassion will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His remarkable life will forever be an inspiration, a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit enthused with curiosity and resilience. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
