JANESVILLE - Margaret Ann (Zurbrugg) Udey, 98, of Janesville formerly of Delavan, passed away November 10, 2023 at Rock Haven Nursing Home in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Margaret was an identical twin (Phyliss Nelson - 1993) and they were born to the late Leona and Walter Zurbrugg on November 9, 1925, in Elkhart Indiana. Margaret spent most of her youth in Battle Creek Michigan area, and graduated from South Chicago High School in 1943. She attended 2 years at the Chicago Conservatory of Music until moving with her family to Delavan, Wisconsin, where she met and married John Udey in 1948.
Margaret and John lived in Delavan from 1948 - 1969, then moved to Janesville, Wisconsin. Margaret lived in Janesville until her death.
Margaret is survived by 3 of her 4 children, Mary Sterken (Leon) of Delavan, Wisconsin, John Udey (Darlynn) of Ocala, Florida, and Laurie Garfinkel (Chaim) of Skokie, Illinois. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by 4 siblings, by her husband in 1996 and her daughter, Karen Collins, on October 22, 2023.
Margaret was the oldest member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She loved to volunteer both at the St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Janesville and at the Lutheran Re-Sale shops in Beloit and Madison. She worked full time her entire adult life as a bookkeeper for several different companies.
Margaret was immensely proud of her family who she loved dearly, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She loved to attend church, play cards, sing and travel. She absolutely loved to play golf. She passed her appreciation of golf to her daughter Laurie who loves to play golf to this day. Her favorite class in school was math and always encouraged all of her kids to excel in the subject.
Margaret will be cremated and a funeral is planned for Thursday, November 16, 2023. Visitation is 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M, followed by funeral services starting at 1:00 P.M. at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan, Wisconsin. She will be buried with her husband at Roselawn Memory Gardens in Lake Geneva at a later date.
