DELAVAN – DELAVAN-May Louise Wetherall, age 101, of Delavan, at rest Tuesday, February 8, 2022. She was born in Chicago on May 2, 1920, to Walter and Eugenia (Zoeller) Beilke. She was the steadfast and beloved wife of William (Bill) Wetherall;loving mother of Audrey “Bambie” Middleton (James), Jeanne Hathaway (Mark), the late Joan, Phyllis Serbon (Ron), Steven, Cynthia Schneider (Matt), Christopher and the late Peter. She was unforgettable “Booma” to ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and fond sister to the late Carl, Eugene, Edmund and Inez (Bjork). May was a dear aunt, and cherished friend to many.
A natural born leader, she was indomitable in fulfilling the duties of her various life roles. She shone especially in the role of single mother, after being widowed at the age of fifty-three. Every decision thereafter made was in the best interests of her children, two of whom she outlived. An excellent and attentive listener, her counsel was sought not only by family but many friends as well. Second only to family was her unwavering love of animals. From childhood on she embraced a series of beloved pets, two of whom (Pilate and Carmen) sweetened her life to its end. Creativity was a strong suit, being manifest to the delight of all (and envy of many!) She nurtured a remarkable talent for painting and drawing; attesting to this fact is the comprehensive portfolio she has left behind.
May met unprecedented challenges in her long life with admirable strength, resolve, and determination. She was a tribute to the Greatest Generation.
She and her family extend their deepest appreciation to the extraordinary staff at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn for their skill, kindness, and empathy, especially given the challenging times in which we live.
Funeral mass will be held at NOON on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 714 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan. Memorials can be directed to Lakeland Animal Shelter in Delavan.
