DELAVAN – Richard “Dick” A. Carlson, age 95, of Delavan passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Ridgestone Village in Delavan. Born in Elgin, IL on February 15, 1928 to Ernest and Evelyn (Beyer) Carlson, Dick proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1949. Commemorating his service, he took part in the honor flight to Washington DC.
Dick was united in marriage to Charlotte Stevens on January 12, 1952. As a plumbing and heating contractor for 63 years, serving the needs of the area. Dick was a volunteer firefighter for 21 years, including two years as president of the serving on the Police and Fire Commission. He also enjoyed 15 years as a reading mentor at Darien Elementary School. Dick was a skilled woodworker and blacksmith, making furniture for family and restoring antique vehicles. His passions were bicycling and skiing, having completed 21 American Birkebeiner XC ski races, his last one completed at age 80. As an avid reader, Dick spoke, read, and wrote Swedish fluently. He and Charlotte were fortunate to travel together extensively. Most recently, he was honored as an inductee of The Delavan Hall of Fame.
Dick is survived by his wife of 71 years, Charlotte; daughters, Luann (John) Shirley, (Robert) Karen, Steve (Marilyn) Eric, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
Dick is preceded in death by his sister Lois, infant daughter Paula, and granddaughter Elizabeth.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 18, 2023, at Sugar Creek Lutheran Church, N5690 Cobblestone Road in Elkhorn. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Monday at the church. Burial will take place at Sugar Creek Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial funds to the Delavan Aram Public Library Building Fund.
