DELAVAN – Mitchell J. Shafer, 63, of Delavan passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at home. Mitch was born on February 14, 1961 to Phillip and Barbara (Kitzman) Shafer. He met his future wife, Tina Sterken, in the 1970s. He lost touch with her for many years before finding her again. They were finally united in marriage in November 2015 and were together until Tina passed away in September 2019.
Little came easy to Mitch, and he had his share of struggles. He received his GED in 2007. Before and after that, he worked a variety of jobs and learned numerous skills throughout his life. Mitch had a big laugh, always spoke his mind, and seemed always to live in the moment. He loved his family, the Chicago Bears, his and Tina’s cat Bandit, and a variety of music. His favorite thing to do was take his boat out on Lake Delavan, and he did so every chance he could!
Mitch is survived by his brother, Matt Shafer, of Darien; his stepsons Kaleb Shafer, of Janesville; and Jeremiah and Malachi Shafer, both of Sparta; and many of his cousins.
Mitch is preceded in death by his wife, Tina; his parents; and his brother, Mark.
Services will be held at NOON on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan. Visitation will be held from 10:30 A.M until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
