Darwin Rambow

Darwin Rambow, 85, of Walworth, Wisconsin, passed away at Golden Years of Lake Geneva on November 14, 2025.

Darwin was born in Geneva, Illinois, on November 4, 1940, to Donald and Faith Rambow. In the spring of 1944, his parents and paternal grandparents moved to Walworth’s Big Foot Prairie, where Darwin resided and worked on the family farm for his entire life. Darwin attended Walworth Grade School and Big Foot High School, but the focus of his life was always farming.

Over the years Darwin grew corn, hay, and soybeans, and raised chickens, pigs, and a herd of dairy cows. He often helped neighbors harvest their crops as well as filling silos. Darwin was always ready with his welder to help neighbors and friends fix broken machinery. He was creative and often built replacement parts or tools out of wood or metal to solve a problem. He was also available to help solve problems via the phone, whether it was questions about plumbing, electrical systems in the car, or anything else mechanical and mysterious.

When not creating, he was feeding and caring for calves, chickens, pigs, cows, steers, heifers, and an occasional stray cat or dog. Darwin milked cows for 35 years. His stories about animals invariably included how stubborn or labor-intensive the animals were, but the twinkle in his eye betrayed his love for them. He reminisced fondly about the community he knew on the Big Foot Prairie, tractors, and all things farming. He was a proud owner of the Oliver row crop tractor lineup—models 66, 77, and 88—and was in the process of restoring all three of them. In his later years he enjoyed watching a good tractor pull on RFD-TV or another channel.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Faith Rambow, and is survived by his brother, Harold Rambow (Carolyn); sister, Darleen Worm (Jeff); and nieces and nephews: Mark Rambow, Beth Rambow, John Rambow (Don McConnell), Rachel Worm, and Emily Worm (Arman Pirzad). He was a kind, helpful, and generous man to his siblings as well as his nieces and nephews and always had time to talk with them about what they were doing and what things were like when he was young.

Private graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, in Sharon. The family would like to thank Lakeland Hospital, Delavan Health Services, Golden Years of Lake Geneva and Aurora at Home for their kindness and gentle care. Donations in Darwin’s memory may be made to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 420 Read Street, Walworth WI 53184 (www.felcwalworth.com).
