DELAVAN – Janet L. Emmerich (“OT”), age 83, of Delavan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at home in Delavan, surrounded by family. Janet (Jan) was born in Milwaukee on August 5, 1939 to Leon and Evelyn (Koelsch) Decker. Jan graduated from Holy Angels Academy in 1957 and received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy from Mount Mary College, Milwaukee in 1961. She was a member of the National Occupational Therapy Association, and worked for Dr. John Martin in Delavan then with Walworth County Department of Health and Human Services for 24 years. After retiring, Jan volunteered her services to Hospice as well as the Walworth County Department of Health and Human Services.
Jan married Richard Emmerich on November 11, 1961 at Holy Assumption Church in West Allis and enjoyed six decades together. Jan and Richard were active members of St. Andrew Parish in Delavan, and volunteered at the St. Nick's Breakfast and Parish Festival. Jan was also a member of the Catholic Christian Mothers and volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother.
She was an avid reader of historical literature and was known as the family storyteller. Jan loved to sing, and was a member of the St. Andrew's Parish choir. Cooking was one of her passions enjoyed by all, especially her hors d'oeuvres at the annual Christmastime "Tree Rising" party.
Jan is survived by her four sons, Jeffery (Pam) Emmerich, of Huntsville, AL, Scott (Lorri) Emmerich, of Delavan, Michael Emmerich, of Delavan, and Patrick Emmerich, of Pleasant Prairie; and seven grandchildren, Chelsea, Rylie, Hadyn, Gannon, Tom, Jennifer, and Rachel.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Richard; and her brother.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 6, 2023 at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 714 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
