DELAVAN – John Nelson O’Brien Jr., age 84, of Delavan passed away on Monday, September 3 at his home in Lake Bluff, IL. He was born in Delavan on October 4, 1933 to John and Peg Moehlenpah O’Brien.
John was born, lived and worked most of his life in Delavan. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. From the USMC he enrolled at Lawrence University, then went on to get his law degree from the University of Wisconsin. John practiced law in Delavan his entire career and also served as a municipal judge for Walworth County.
John was an avid hunter (he lived for it) and enjoyed his annual hunting trips to Minong, Wisconsin, with his sons and friends. He also enjoyed coaching and watching his boys play sports, was a basketball and football referee for the high school and the Wisconsin School for the Deaf.
John is survived by his two sons, John (Jack) O’Brien III - 50 of Huntington Beach, Ca., Jim O’Brien - 47 of Libertyville, Il., Nephew Brien Gefvert - 67, of Grayslake Il., Daughter-in-Law Jan O’Brien – 48 of Libertyville Il., Grandchildren; Kevin O’Brien - 22, US Navy, Madison O’Brien - 18, Indiana University, Katie O’Brien - 16, Huntington Beach, Ca., Peyton O’Brien - 15, Libertyville, Il. and Kendall O’Brien - 13, Libertyville, Il. John is preceded in death by Wife Noreen.
Visitation will be held from 1:00PM – 3:00PM on September 22, 2018 at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Ave in Delavan. Memorials can be directed to Jack O’Brien.
