Thomas Francis Finegan

FONTANA - Thomas Francis Finegan, age 85, found peace on November 9, 2025, at home in Fontana, Wisconsin.  Tom was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 25, 1940, to Dr. Thomas Francis Finegan and Mary Josephine (Sheehan) Finegan.  He graduated from Saint Ignatius College Prep in 1958 where he was a member of the Honor Society and ran track for a city championship team.  In 1962, Tom graduated from the University of Notre Dame where he was named to the Dean's List and received awards for outstanding performance in writing.  Following graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy.  He later earned his J.D. and L.L.M. with highest honors from Loyola University Chicago.  Tom was united in marriage to Mary Jane Leonard on August 21, 1971, at St. Bride's Church and they were married for over 54 years.  He served with distinction in the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defender in post-trial matters, post-conviction petitions, and appellate cases.  His ready smile, sense of humor, kindness, temperament, strong sense of faith and patriotism, intellect, and love of learning made those he touched better for having known him.  He is survived by his loving wife Mary Jane and five children; Mary Jane (John CPD) Davidson, Josephine (Brian CFD) McDonough, Thomas CPD (Amanda), Joseph CPD, Megan (Marty) Daley; fourteen grandchildren; John (Sarena), Jane, Danny, Grace, Moira, Abigail, Quinn, Finegan, Flynn, Madeline, Bridget, Billy, Olivia, Corrigan; and one great grandchild; Vayda. 

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 714 E. Walworth Avenue in Delavan.  Visitation will be held from NOON until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church.  Burial will take place at the University of Notre Dame Cedar Grove Cemetery at a later date.
